The 12th Annual Post Graduate Course by the Makati Medical Center Section of Endocrinology, Diabetes, and Metabolism took place online on November 13-14, 2023. Entitled “Expanding Horizons: Discovering New Breakthroughs in Endocrinology,” this initiative aimed to extend the reach of knowledge in the dynamic field of endocrinology. With over 1600 attendees spanning Asia, the Middle East, the USA, and Europe, this two-day course featured 8 symposia lectures, 3 pre-symposia, 7 on-demand lectures, and 2 industry-sponsored sessions led by distinguished experts in the field of endocrinology and other related specialties. Valuable insights were shared during the course, fostering ongoing education.
Dr. Augusto Litonjua, renowned as “The Father of Philippine Endocrinology,” commenced the conference by exploring the timely and relevant topic of obesity, exploring the nuanced choice between quantity and quality of weight loss. Wrapping up the two-day event, the session took a refreshing turn with an enlightening discussion by image and branding coach, Mrs. Patricia Pronstroller-Tolentino. She provided pearls of wisdom regarding the professional representation of medical practitioners, offering a unique perspective on building a distinctive brand within the healthcare environment.
The Post Graduate course also tackled a diverse array of topics which included nutrition, diabetes, thyroid disorders and management, endocrine and cancer immunotherapy, gender affirmation journeys, performance-enhancing hormones, genomics, and general endocrinology. These provided attendees with a multifaceted understanding of the broad spectrum of issues and advancements within the realm of endocrinology. For both the organizers and the participants, this activity was indeed enriching and fulfilling.
