Hung-up and Salted: Goiter and the Thyroid in Focus

Gretchen Ang Manuel, MD and Julie Anne Gabat-Tan, MD

The De La Salle University Medical Center (DLSUMC) celebrated Goiter Awareness Week with the theme “Leeg Kapain, Goiter Sugpuin: Isip Patalinuhin, Iodized Salt ay Gamitin.” Part of the celebration included a lay forum that was conducted last January 24, 2024, at the Out-Patient Department of the DLSUMC.

Here we can see Dr. Christine Joy Balalta, fellow of the Section of Endocrinology at DLSUMC and head of the Goiter Awareness Week, who talked about the anatomy of the thyroid gland.

In this photo is Dr. Randolf Perez, fellow of the Section of Endocrinology, who explained the utility of ultrasound in the diagnosis and management of goiter.

At the conclusion of the lay forum, the fellows of the Section of Endocrinology at DLSUMC (from left to right, Dr. Athena Patawaran, Dr. Randolf Perez, Dr. Gretchen Ang Manuel and Dr. Christine Balalta) had a group photo together with the attendees of the lay forum. It was an enriching experience for both the lecturers and audience alike.
